In light of the role out of the new IDDSI framework we have published this new online training course, which specifically focuses on to care for people with dysphagia. It is designed and presented by professionals with wide experience in the area, and is designed for nurses and care staff who work in any care setting where dysphagia may occur. It takes about 1.5 hours to complete (sometimes a little less), and learners receive a certificate of completion at the end. Staff training is very important to any organisation’s dysphagia care plan.

This training features a comprehensive approach to care and goes beyond the thickening of fluids:

  • A detailed explanation and demonstration of the IDDSI Framework (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative).
  • The course content includes video and audio demonstration of each fluid thickness and food consistency in the IDDSI Framework.
  • It gives care staff the tools to recognise dysphagia, to know when to refer, and to feel confident following the Speech and Language Therapist’s recommendations
  • It also examines safe feeding practices, and enhancing the mealtime environment.

This comprehensive course is recommended for all nursing and care staff, to reduce the negative consequences of dysphagia, and to allow those caring for people with dysphagia to do so safely and confidently. It is accredited by The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF). Click here to enroll now.
